Ontario’s political leaders need to get tough on food-delivery companies | Companies such as Uber Eats and DoorDash charge ruinous commissions. It’s time for Premier Ford and Mayor Tory to stand up for the small businesses being destroyed

Overall I just think that if capitalism is allowed to run rampant the end result tends to be a concentration of wealth at the top while the rest suffer.

And yet people clamour to move to urban areas. Urban areas that allow wealth to concentrate. Ain't nobody amassing mega-wealth in the middle of a remote rural forest. This strong desire for the vast majority of the population to gather in a small geographical area on order to concentrate wealth would suggest that it is beneficial to everyone.

It's not hard to undo that concentration of wealth. If everyone in Toronto moved to the remote rural forest, most large businesses there would collapse, and their wealthy benefactors would see their wealth collapse alongside. I suspect people actually prefer wealth to be concentrated.

The economy is no zero-sum. Someone being wealthier does not mean others have to be less wealthy.

They spent $200 million dollars on a ballot measure that would allow them to continue treating their drivers as contractors

Their workers clearly fit the definition of contractor by every measure, so that makes sense. It would have been outrageous to have gone any other way. However, the whole distinction between contractors and employees is quite flimsy and rather ridiculous. The fact that people want app-based drivers to be anything other than contractors, even when they are clearly contractors, highlights the bigger problem with there being a distinction. There is no meaningful difference between them and the laws should be updated to close any gap that exists between them. Prop 22 was completely misguided in the problem it was trying to solve. That is where you will find the failure.
