Open Back vs. Closed Back headphones for gaming: What you need to know.

I have Philips shp9500s (open) and takstar pro 82's (closed) I like the sound of both, however I really like the sound the pro 82's have and really wanted to use them for gaming, but... I just couldn't. I did vigorous swapping between the two and the Shp9500s are just superior for knowing where something is, in every way. So.. I just use my pro 82's for music and non-competitive fps/other games. That being said.. my online buddy uses some beats closed backs (eww I know) but he is really good at competitive fps games regardless, maybe the soundstage on the beats are better than the pro 82's?? I dunno I've never tested them my self.

I've been told that putting bigger/wider pads on the pro 82's will help open up my pro 82's more but I doubt its much help. Pretty much, my opinion is open backs will win everytime to my ears for competitive gaming, no matter how much I like the sound signature of a pair of closed backs.
