Open defecation in India as shown on VICE

I was born and raised in India until I was about 14. This really isn't 2007 and have lived here since. I went to India this past december and really shit hasn't changed. I visited my home town of Delhi.

Public defecation is still an issue, people still pee/shit and spit on the sidewalk. Passing by a public urinal? Yeah better cover your face so you don't have to smell the horrible smell of shit and piss not being flushed out and just sitting there.

Street vendors are great but it's as great as the area you are in. Food is cheap, sure but is it worth it if there's a urinal like 20 steps away? There's so much pollution on the roads that for a person like me who has asthma, I couldn't cross the roads without covering up my mouth or holding my breathe. Oh right crossing roads, yeah traffic doesn't give a fuck about you. Cross when there's a traffic jam or with the traffic if that's where you are going. It's so fucking chaotic.

There's so many problems in India that I don't even know how to stick to one point or thing. So much corruption in the government, lack of education, lack of general respect towards others. Like in the Delhi Metro, fucking males who are capable of standing are sitting in seats reserved for women and elders. Like holy shit, fucking assholes have no shame even when asked to get up. My mom and my cousin sister were standing up and I was fucking furious but I didn't want to say shit because I am not going to start shit in a country where I can't rely on if someone will even come in and intervene. I don't know man, I was hoping that should would change when I visited India. Ofcourse the country won't turn overnight and still has a long time to go but really there seems to be little to no progress since I had last visited. I am also clearly not very good at sticking to one point or expressing my opinion but just wanted to share some thoughts. It really is that bad in big cities near the slums or even decent middle-class areas. Sub urbs are a totally different situation because $$$$$. You can live a great life, just as good as we have it here in Canada if you got the money. Other than that, you are shit out of luck when it comes to reliable water supply, electricity and santiation. /endrant.
