Nothing good has ever come from closing off avenues of technological progress for the following reasons:
I don't understand what's so hard about making laws to govern the use of new technology as it is adopted. This whole paradigm of being perpetually too far behind technology to adopt meaningful laws for governing its use is just lazy lawmaking. Instead of having frequent discussions about how technology impacts our system of laws they just sit back until corporations, law enforcement, and who-knows-who-else has had their fill of abusing whatever new tech comes out and only then do laws start getting passed. That kind of ignorance made sense in the 90s during the dot com bubble but it makes no sense in 2019. Lawmakers should be on top of things.
