Opinion: this subreddit is absolutely obsessed with all negative local news about COVID

You make a compelling argument to take a sober second look at the climate and culture of this community, especially the last few months.

While not an excuse, I think the general attitude has been stunned disbelief at the incompetency of our current provincial government. With a healthcare system that has been crumbling for 5+ years, and only worsened over the course of this pandemic, Manitoba is in a unique and terrifying place amongst Canadian provinces. While other provinces grapple with this pandemic, Manitobans have had to endure possibly the worst healthcare delivery in Canada (which only continues to get worsened throughout this latest wave).

Can we lighten the attitude on this subreddit? Yes. Can we share more of the great things happening in our beautiful city? Is there more to life than COVID? Yes. Can we ignore the failings of this government and its handling of the pandemic? No.

Thank you for the reminder to stay more positive. I think a healthy mix of holding our governments to account (for things more than COVID), while also sharing our great city, is what's needed.
