Opinion | What Lloyd Austin’s critics don’t understand about ‘civilian control’

So, you don’t want a general to be defense secretary. You don’t want anyone who has worked in the defense industry. You don’t want a man. You don’t want anyone who supported a prior war. You don’t want anyone who carried out their duties in Iraq or Afghanistan. You don’t want — what exactly do you want?

I didn't make it past this paragraph as it it denotes pretty much anyone who gives any reason for for not liking Austin is a foolhardy blowhard. Nevermind no one is taking issue with most of what he pointed out. This is textbook strawman.

The issue is time away from service and his being a board member, not merely a "worker" on an assembly line. This article is shit and so is anyone tries to confuse "basic qualifications" with "purity tests."
