Opinions on paras calling themselves teachers?

I guess what I meant was that there is a higher level of expectation and accountability for the lead teacher. I’ve had classes before where I had a SPED co-teacher and para. Whenever I had to call off work, not a single time did any of them step up to take the lead in planning or conducting a lesson in my absence. The process of learning came to a complete halt when I called off. But on days when they were absent, I still conducted and lesson and didn’t expect them to leave sub plans or instructions. Heck, with one of my co-teachers I was lucky to get an email letting me know they’d be absent. This is all to say that of course there are paras who are incredibly hard working, but I would argue that they are different from teachers in that the process of learning does not stop if they opt not to be hardworking.
