Is OPM becoming what it was making fun of?

I don't think ONE'S main goal was to make a series entirely focusing on subverting superhero/shounen tropes. Well, I dont think thats his main focus. I haven't seen interviews with him talking about is goals or intention about OPM. It's mostly observation from reviewers and audience that attached this concept onto the story. Not saying they are wrong but if they are anime only viewer, they are gonna be disappointed.

The recent fights are more like a brief look into character's background and story progression, than character development. That will come later, if I remember the webcomic properly.

About Saitama whereabouts, it's the same with the Webcomic. Saitama is nowhere to be seen for the majority of the monster association arc. Since the manga has extended storyline, it's understandable that the disappearance feels more noticeable. I also noticed that majority of the "subversion" exists when Saitama is around. Makes you think he is the outlier in a shounen world. As I recall, one of the YouTuber stated that the characters apart from saitama have stakes, so they will experience the common cliché tropes. Since the story is focused on supporting cast, the story does become more like a typical shounen.

Let me also just quickly write why I personally read this series and what I think about it...

I first read this story in manga it was up the start of King arc, as that all there was at the time. I liked it so much, I went to reading the webcomic. Saw the anime, was impressed, then went back to reading the manga. During that whole time, I didn't go about looking for hidden agendas or deep meanings. I just found an interesting premise and characters that were engaging to me. It made the Webcomic enjoyable despite the bad art. I do admit some of the manga stuff is a bit dragged out. I would've like if they kept some of the stuff short and sweet.
