You get the opportunity to create your own planet, what's it like?

It's been a (very long) while since I studied physics, but I liked your post.
One could calculate the orbital period of your planet:
T = 2pi sqr(a3 /μ)
a (semi-major axis) is 1 billion meter ("orbit about 1 million km from the planet")
μ= 1.3286 × 1028 kg (seven times the mass of Jupiter) * gravitational constant ( 6.674×10−11 N⋅m2 /kg2)

So T must be (unless my quick and dirty calculations are wrong) = 2pisqrt((1 billion meter)3 /(1.3286(1028)kg((6.67410−11)N⋅m2 /kg2)) = 211003 seconds. Or 2 days 10 hours 36 minutes 43.49 seconds to complete its orbit around the mother-planet.
A year for the mother planet is around the same as an earth year.
Tidal force might be a problem. The mother planet is only 3 times further away than the moon, but 180,819 times heavier. Expect a tilal force thousands times that of the moon.
