Oppression and Freedom

But if the persons body is policed and forced to wear more revealing dresses, make up, shaved legs. Heels etc then that is also oppression. The point is to not tell woman what to do with their bodies.

I think you should be careful using the word "oppression" here.

If a women feels like she needs to be attractive, by applying revealing fashion, using make up, shaving legs, then it is not oppression.

There is no physical or emotional punishment for her if she did not do it. She might get some mean comments or stink eyes from strangers, but that's all there is.

Compared that with religion commanding women to cover their whole body except face and palms. When she didn't cover: She will feel fear of hell punishment in the afterlife. She will feel guilt for disappointing her parents. She will feel fear of physical intervention from her father/brother/uncle/other male figures in her family.

Society norms and expectation can and has been continually be challenged.

Can we do the same with religious commands?
