Oral Surgeons: is a consultation absolutely required before wisdom tooth extraction?

Who exactly told you that the consulting oral surgeon was "in-network"? When you checked-in at the oral surgeon's office did they ask you about your insurance at all?

Bottom line is it is your responsibility to make sure your provider is in network. Do not just take someone' sword for that. Conversely, it is also the dental office's responsibility to ask about your specific insurance plan, and to let you know ahead of time that they are not an "in-network" provider.

when you choose the next oral surgeon, I highly suggest that call and you confirm with your insurance carrier that this surgeon is , indeed, "in-network".

Ask your dentist for your X-rays and for a referral to an 'In-network" oral surgeon. Or go to your insurer's website and look for an in-network oral surgeon in your area.
