Oregon Wildfires MEGATHREAD -- September 8, 2020

Is there an assistance thread for people who have things to give, and for people to request what they need?

Is there a place for people to find where they can go, or for people who have animals and need land for horses/others?

Is there a list of food pantries, clothing donation/pick up sites?

Somewhere people are collecting/distributing dog/cat/other pet food?

I don’t have much, but my family is safe for now, and I’d like to help with what I can.

My husband (37M now) had a stroke in March (he’s recovered very well), my best friend has stage 4 cancer (she is terminal, a 35yr old single mom), and I know how much it meant to me when I needed help. And how much it hurts when you feel like there’s no hope.

Stay as safe as you can all, and if someone knows of where I can find the answers to those questions, I’d love to be linked.

Even if you just want a distraction, and want a book or movie or show recommendation, or play some video games (I play Fortnite with my family), I know this city is full of amazing people, and we will get through this the best we can.

Also, if you see pets left behind, that are in clear danger, please contact the proper authorities, or a rescue group, A friend has been helping save horses & I’m sure the owners don’t want to leave the animals, but they may not have a choice, is there somewhere people can call for help boarding their pets temporarily?

Also stay hydrated! The smoke and poor air quality can cause severe headaches, make sure you stay hydrated so it doesn’t make them worse.

A final PSA: If you witness the following, call 911, every single minute during a stroke kills brain cells, and faster treatment is generally a better recovery.

If you see...

Someone slur their words when they don’t normally or haven’t been drinking (this is what I saw my husband do, he slurred and never had slurred in the 20yrs I’ve known him)

One side of their face/body drooping/being weak. (In my husbands case he slurred, and within 10min the left side of his face drooped & he couldn’t hold up his left arm)

Other symptoms are confusion, weakness, numbness, difficulty swallowing, severe headache, difficulty speaking, paralysis (often on one side of the body)

F.A.S.T.

F. Face Drooping A. Arm Weakness/Numbness S. Speech (Slurring or difficulty speaking) T. Time to call 911

If my husband had taken a nap like he wanted to, he’d be dead, his stroke was considered one of the worst you can have. He had to have surgery through his thigh to remove the blood clot from his brain, and he’s doing amazing, fast treatment saved his life & saved his quality of life.
