Oscars Ratings Crash To All-Time Low; Viewership Falls Under 10M For First Time Ever

Fascinating. I didn't watch for the obvious reasons of a lack of interest in the oscars of the pandemic year, but I tuned in for a few minutes and found it very interesting but strange.

A wide aspect ratio, camera positions and a location that allow for a shots like the one where laura dern is talking directly to Daniel Kaluuya and it feels really direct and intimate. A lot of that is covid making it so sparsely attended so he's not in a crowd, but that was pretty cool and all I saw of it.

I only found out in a podcast the next day that the entire show was directed by Steven Soderbergh, and made some very unusual choices like no clips, things that seemed bold but unlikely to work.

But I had wished I watched it to see an unusual awards show and if it worked at all, and this is the first I'm seeing that people hated it.
