Oscars: Why Refusing to Air All Categories During the Telecast Is a Really Dumb Mistake

I don't understand the giant contrarian circlejerk people seem to have with the oscars. Durr they're just a popularity contest they don't mean anything (and then everyone passionately argues over snubs and who wins and who doesn't anyway)

When you're a fan of something, its nice to have a formal celebration/ranking/award show/whatever for it. if you like movies, the oscars are what you get. Yeah there are issues, but like...i'd rather have them then not have them. It's cool to see the performers you like up on stage talking about their craft, contrived/rigged as the voting is or otherwise.

That being said, this year has really made me warm up to the SAGs/Golden Globes. I can see the "B-team" awards shows getting more traction from the dedicated film fanbase as the Oscars spin their heads trying to increase popularity.
