Osho about "India's democracy"

This is all very ideal, but this idea is far more idealistic and impractical. Dictatorships and communist states, no matter how benevolent, never pave way for proper democracy. Singapore despite all its insane progress is still a repressive state, doling out capital punishment over minor crimes pretty often and their current prime minister is the son of the “benevolent dictator” Lee Kuan Yew. China, now the richest country in the world, is still as authoritarian as it was decades ago. It’s true that democracies are far more functional in more civilized and developed nations that are used to it, but that doesn’t mean you use a different tool to bring the society to that state. Emergency, no matter how effective, was a cruel, cruel time. Why must we forget that? Your rights are far more important than a country’s prosperity.
