OSSTF offers province a way to prevent 1-day strike

You should do some introspection.

OSSTF is the one out of touch when average teacher makes 86k - 92k on average depending on if you use the union numbers or the govt's numbers.

That is a high salary.

The govt wants them to accept the same 1% wage increase as other public sector workers. It would save the province $750mm at a time when we have a $11B deficit.

Since 2003:

  • Teacher salary has increased 80% on a nominal basis

  • 12% more teachers have been hired

  • student population has grown by 1%

A third of the provinces workers are at or near minimum wage. OSSTF is not budging at all on salary.

The union doesn't want to increase class sizes to where they were just a decade ago because it would mean their numbers would shrink.

The Government has a mandate to balance the budget. Instead of cutting public services in healthcare, teachers can afford a 1% pay cut so that we can get our finances in order.
