It is just mostly about the type of content the Chinese prefer. We are all well aware that they flock towards big budget action movies with lots of CGI, but just because a movie has tons of CGI and is successful in China, it doesnt necessarily make it good. I dont think many of us look at how a movie is performing in China to decide whether or not we want to see it. I actually somewhat did get influenced by China with Aquaman, but I still haven't watched it, I just can't say I trust the Chinese box office in any critical sense.
That said, a big budget film's success in China is almost a necessity now, so downplaying numbers in China is silly, they make up just as much money as the domestic box office and they are absolutely crucial to a big movies success.
