Ottawa paramedics at 'Level Zero' 526 times in first five months of 2022

Ambulatory staffing is the responsibility of the city. This has been an issue for as long as Jim Watson has been mayor, which means as long as Wynne and McGuinty were in office too.

Its the city’s fault for not having enough ambulance staff and its the city’s fault for amalgamating 3,000 square Km of rural farm land with not enough tax base to support first response services. Did you know that the City of Ottawa not only has the lowest per capita police officers, but also relies on volunteer firefighters too? Despite being a G7 nation?

The only role the province plays in ambulance services is certifying and ensuring they meet the highest level of care. In some parts of the province they also provide 911 dispatch services but that is not the case in Ottawa, who not only dispatches themselves, but also choses to dispatches the entirety of Eastern Ontario.

If you’re going to blame the province for not hiring more medics you might as well blame the federal government and maybe the UN and the vatican too while you’re at it.
