One simple test for this: some peeps lived well into their 80s thousands of years ago. This is documented fact. Plato is one of them. Then others say life expectancy was 25 years old. Is it really possible for someone to live 3x the average life expectancy unless something is off? Of course not. Imagine someone living to be over 210 years old today. It's impossible.

This isn't a "faux concept" though. It's just a misapplication of statistics. The average life expectancy is indeed in that range; the problem is you need to look deeper into the numbers which reveals very quickly why the average can be so low but the range so large. Like you said, child mortality being one of the big reasons. As it was and forever will be: there are lies, damned lies, and statistics. Gotta turn the brain on when you dance with the Beast of Numbers.
