Our family dog is 17, he struggles to do anything. I was wondering if there is any kind way to bring up putting him down?

Basically he is blind, can't hear and his sense of smell has gone. Recently he could barely stand, so my parents went to a vet and got him some injections/medicine to help. It did for about 3 weeks. And now he is getting worse again. I have brought up the idea of putting him down (I feel horrible for suggesting it, but he doesn't have any quality of life). They got really upset at me, saying it's a horrible thing to say.

I'm wondering 2 things, 1. Is it humane option to put him down? 2. Is there any way I could suggest it further without it sounding horrible?

As I said, I don't mean to be horrible, I just feel he struggles so much, he falls while eating his food, trips constantly and can't stand back up. I love him very much, the thought of him passing is emotional but I feel doing this would be out of love for him, end his pain.
