Our parents never saw us as children

My dad had a fit saying "after everything we've done for you" when I limited contact with him recently. Most of my memories of him are arguments. It's like, "yeah, Dad, you paid for my winter coats but you also started fights with me every time my opinion on anything differed from yours." Like I literally fought with my dad in an REI trying to explain to him that I wanted two cheaper layering coats instead of one gigantic one because the school I went to was cold but hilly (so I'd end up going from cold to drenched in sweat in like ten minutes walking to class). He wouldn't quit arguing, and he'd never even lived in the area I went to school in. Stop telling me I'm wrong and yelling at me for picking out a coat I wanted that you brought me here to get. Why did we even go coat shopping? Oh just so you could have a power trip and make me feel bad for needing a coat.
