Plus, "Internet sites "
Well, I did explain that was an AutoCorrect and lack of proofreading error here But this is reddit so we'd much rather sling shit than have reasonable discourse.
It's a Web based application.
Sure. I'll agree with you there.
You are about one half as knowledgeable about this as you think.
But if you're going to be a dick about it, I could really give two shits what you think.
On the other hand, If you're not going to be a dick about it, while my initial statement was short and flippant there's actually more thought that went into it than you think:
"App" has become like the word "Cloud". We're not using it to describe anything new, "The Cloud" is quite literally just hosted applications, which have existed for literally as long as the internet... I mean, we could even call AOL the first "Cloud" provider. But some marketing hoo-ha started using it, so now everything is the Cloud. Fuck, my title is "Cloud Engineer" and I'm strictly working on our in house vSphere infrastructure...
"App" has become much like the word "Cloud" in that it's been over used to death and means absolutely everything and nothing. Think about it, when used conversationally, what information do you convey you you call your program an "App"? Nothing... What information do you convey when you call your program a "Web based application"? Well, just from those three words we can infer that there's some kind of internet facing interface, it's some kind of "application" so I'd assume some form of database/information store and some kind of computation is going on to retrieve and present that information. Obviously satire, but this image linked below summarizes my point fairly well, if we call everything an "app" then we're really no longer communicating and just making sounds at each other.
