Out of Sight (2016) - been working for four years on this doc about the stigmas that surround adolescent mental health. [TRAILER] - [02:39]

I went without help for the longest time.becsuse I had suicidal thoughts and I rightfully did not want to confess them for.fewr of being hospitalized.

I did eventually tell someone who immediately called the police and had me.hospitwlized.

Being in that hospital truly drove home how incredibly broken our system is. That wasn't a place to get help. It was a place to put people for a night or two to spare someone else a potential lawsuit.

The mental healthcare system in America isn't just broken, it's a disgrace. So many people face homelessness because they are I'll and there is nothing in place to help them.

I keep a gun and an exit bag because if it comes down to it I will NOT end up homeless for committing the unforgivable crime of having a mental illness in America. Not going to happen.

Spare me the saccharin sweet spiel of how there's help for everyone. I've heard it, and you are full of shit. Open your eyes. Take a fucking walk in a city of your choice. Where's the help for all those homeless people? Some half-assed social worker isn't going to put a goddamn dent in treatment resistant depression or severe paranoid schizophrenia.
