The Outer Worlds is an example of a game that people want to be good, rather than a game that is good.

It's definitely a good game, but people are ignoring the fact that it's heavily dumbed down from New Vegas. Not as shallow as Fallout 4, but not much deeper than Fallout 3 in terms of mechanics and quest design.

I also feel the developers vastly overstated the length of the game. They said 25-40 hours, but on howlongtobeat.com the average playtime is 17 hours including side content. I looked up every sidequest and only managed 20 hours.

Even with all its flaws though, it's still a better RPG than anything Bethesda or Bioware have made in a long time. With creative freedom and finanicial security under Microsoft, I think Obsidian's next game will blow peoples socks off.
