Overhauling my diet, need shopping lists/meal plans. Can anyone help?

Hello! I will offer what I usually eat and hopefully give you some ideas. :)

I, too am not a huge breakfast person in spite of being very active with my job. I used to eat peanut butter and toast until I started watching my macronutrients (I track calories with My Fitness Pal [it's a free app] and it also shows your macro breakdown which means how much fat, protein and carbs you get. I really recommend getting that app or a similar one and tracking your food!)

Breakfast: high protein scrambled eggs: 1 large egg, 1/4 cup egg whites, 2 tbsp cottage cheese. I usually start by cooking a few pieces of diced onion (every time I chop onion I dice extra and throw it in a ziploc in the fridge. A tiny bit of diced onion adds tons of flavour to anything!) OR fruit smoothie: vanilla protein powder, banana, orange juice (with calcium), frozen berries OR protein shake: protein powder, banana, milk

I'm not a huge dairy fan so I prefer the fruit smoothie to the shake.

Lunch: 1. tuna melt - whole wheat pita, tuna, cheddar cheese (I mix 1 can of tuna with 1/4 cup cottage cheese instead of mayo, sometimes add diced celery or pickles. 1 can makes two servings.) I like tuna melts open faced so I do it like a pita pizza and cook in my toaster oven

  1. hummus - whole wheat pita, veggies like broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, tomatoes, and some hummus

  2. cheese tortellini (I'm addicted to this meal) - store bought cheese tortellini, steam broccoli on top of the noodles while they cook, add a tbsp of pesto. Delicious.

  3. salad with protein - any mix of spinach, lettuce, cabbage topped usually with carrots and crunchy veg (cucumbers, celery), seeds (I like roasted pumpkin seeds), dried cranberries, and protein like a hard boiled egg, some grilled chicken breast, fish, etc

  4. sardines and saltines: 1 can of sardines mixed with yellow mustard, soda crackers and some fruit or a small salad

  5. leftovers are the best. My favourite is if I have leftover stir fry I cook 1/2 pack of ramen noodles, mix in the stir fry and top with a fried egg ( I love runny yolks.)

  6. soups, sandwiches, wraps, etc etc

I often have an afternoon snack. Coffee always. Sometimes it's yogurt, sometimes it's fruit and cheese, crackers and cheese, hummus and carrots, basically I try to get a little protein and a fruit or a veggie but not always.

Dinner

Nothing wrong with chili! Just make it with veggies! Carrots, bell peppers go wonderfully. I like using ground turkey instead of beef sometimes.

A meat, a starch and a dark green veg is my go to dinner. So meat can be: whole roast chicken or roast chicken parts (thighs or drums), roast turkey parts (breast, thighs, drums), a fish, pork chops, beef roast, pork loin, ham, etc Starch can be: roast potatoes (I like those tiny ones), a baked sweet potato, brown rice, quinoa, couscous, whole wheat pasta, etc Dark veggies: spinach salad (I like doing just spinach with goat cheese and lemon juice), steamed broccoli, steamed green beans, kale salad, cabbage, mixed salad, etc I also sometimes add roast carrots or other veggies. Roasting vegetables is amazing! They're so good.

TIPS -get a tracking app and pay attention to your macronutrients especially protein -you don't have to cut out coffee. I've gone from 3 sugars to 2 in the last year. I love coffee. -stock your fridge with better food. Apples, oranges, bananas, broccoli, cabbage, carrots. Fresh fruit and veggies that you can eat raw and that last awhile. -shop sales. I buy whatever vegetable is on sale that week. Same with meat. If I wanted to buy a roast chicken but there's a big sale on pork loin, I buy the pork. Buy larger cuts/packs of meat and freeze some right away. -check out other subreddits (there are some on the sidebar but also: /r/eatcheapandhealthy /r/budgetfood /r/fitmeals /r/slowcooking /r/food /r/cooking )

I can give you a full grocery list if you like! Just let me know. I spend about $50-$60 a week for two very active and tall adults (I'm 5'7" and my partner is 6'5".)
