Overhearing people in work talking about the new diet they're trying always reminds me of this.

Calm down. There's no need to start sentences with so,use the words stupid and miserable, or tell me to pat myself on the back, because you're upset (for whatever reason). I'm just having a conversation. Feel free to reread my other comments in the thread, because it seems you're adding in some kind of flames or emotion that isn't there.

All I said was I don't see long-term success from calorie trackers and "easy" is relative, which it is. It's a non-subjective description.

So basically the people who rely purely on marketing and do 0 research are doomed to fail on their diet plans? That's not shocking. Are those really the same people buying a food scale/logging what they eat though? If they figured out how to use something like MyFitnessPal or some other app I'm sure they can google around different recipes or meal combinations.

Yes. The reason I brought it up it because I've never met someone in my 30 years of existence who has had long-term success with calorie trackers, because not all calories are created equal, because they don't understand what is/isn't healthy.

Honestly I think your breakfast example is stupid too - why are you suggesting an apple/egg whites?

It's stupid to eat a simple breakfast versus a lot of fat, carbs, and sugar? I gave cinnamon oatmeal as an example of what people think is healthy, because it says oatmeal in the name. Obviously plain steel cut oatmeal is fine. Just checked Quaker's nutrition facts and brown sugar cinnamon has 260mg more sodium, 10g more sugar, 30 more calories, 2g less insoluble fiber, 1g less soluble fiber, and 1g less protein than regular steel cut.

Yea, probably for millions of people given the billion dollar alcohol industry. I'm guessing you also pat yourself on the back for not drinking as well as eating healthy?

Seems like a conversation for another topic, which is why I asked why you mentioned it, considering you didn't list a counterpoint of being easier than what. You're talking about why people drink alcohol, rather than talking about the nutrition facts of it.

I'm guessing you also pat yourself on the back for not drinking as well as eating healthy?

I don't consider it something worth patting myself on the back over, because I don't drink. It simply doesn't taste good. I'd rather have a slushy, orange juice, or coke, rather than a margarita, screw driver, or add rum. It was also not responsible to drink illegally, which is what most people do out of peer pressure. It's not really a high horse to avoid getting in trouble, getting suspended or kicked off a sports team, and/or arrested. Nowadays it's as simple as not tasting good. I'm not proud of my taste buds.

The point is that it's easier to give into indulgences for most people, and take the easy route.

The point is that it's easier to give into indulgences for most people, and take the easy route. Order in a meal and relax vs cooking for ~20-40 minutes. Skip the gym vs go workout.

Did I say something to prompt you to say this? Isn't this understood?

I don't see the value in going around spouting stupid nonsense like it's as simple as drinking ice water vs X,Y,Z. Little snippets of random information won't fundamentally change someone's understanding of nutrition.

Really? I was hoping my random comment would change someone's life. I said "easy" is relative, which it is.
