Overweight and out-of-shape people of Reddit who have run (or walked) a 5K, how did you do it?

I did a 10k last year at 175 lbs, having run four times in the past near twenty years. I ballparked myself at finishing at two and a half hours and did it in 1:16. Granted, I am a long distance walker used to movement, but I was very out of shape for cardio.

Ended up being way easier than I ever expected. When I started to hate running, I'd walk quickly until it seemed doable again. Shortly after I finished, I signed up for another 10k and my best friend, very very out of shape but very inspired, joined me. She finished at 1:25 and I'll never forget watching her cross that finish line knowing she felt as overwhelmed with pride as I did that first time.

Youre going to feel great. Run when you can, walk when you can't. Just one foot in front of the other.
