I think the overwhelmingly positive reviews of Elden Ring are misleading for those new to the soulsborne genre

I'm one of those for a different reason. I wanted a Dark Souls game with a more coherent story and modern cinematic narrative "ala" Witcher style dialogues and NPCs. I played DS but i hate that it's just all about challenging and rewarding gameplay (which i like) with mediocre story telling: just NPCs with philosophical ramblings they don't even open their mouths and a mute protagonist, then some reading of lore and that's it. It's a "figure out yourself" game in combat and mechanics but apparently in story as well, lol. Even most DS players admit they don't bother with the story.

Watching the initial previews and trailer of ER, i thought maybe this one is finally a Dark Souls game with more laid out story and more alive interactive NPCS. Although I'm still early in the game, but looks like NPCs are just the same with previous DS games.
