P.K. Subban's donation inspires young boy to give $20

Allright, I'm gonna stick my neck out. Of course it's a great gesture, but I have trouble with the mentions of the ''10 millions $ donation''. It's like credit for reputation.

To give a silly example of what I'm talking about, if you start a new job and you earn 15$ / hr at your job, your employer doesn't get to proclaim, ''hey, I just gave you 31,200$''. Or if you start giving 5% of your paycheck to Centraide every week, you don't say to say to your friends, ''Hey guys, I just gave 6000$ to Centraide'' when that amount would be reached in 5 years.

Now I don't know if PK has already given a sizable amount of the 10 millions, but I've read no confirmation that the hospital had received any money that could benifit the children today as of Sept. 19 2015. But starting now, PK has the reputation of someone who has given (note past tense) 10 millions dollars to the hospital. Not 100k, not 250k, not 600k, as may be plausibly in the hands of the hospital as of today, but 10 millions $. And you can be sure anytime PK will be mentioned in the media, the 10 millions donation will be mentioned without any nuances, and I've already seen plenty of examples of that.

I'm not saying that in 7 years the donation won't have been completed (although if something were to happen in three or four years, you can bet there will be no press conference to announce suspension of payments). I'm just saying that it's interesting that in a sense PK is collecting interest right away on his reputation for something he hasn't yet completed, or achieved in a very small fraction. The atrium bears his name today. Maybe there's guarantees that's been given to the hospital, but I haven't seen any journalists probing that information.

So yeah, it's a great gesture, but let's keep our heads on as well, this is P.R. first and foremost.
