Why do parents care more about school work than your mental state?

Wow I am in the exact same boat as you. I am struggling right now too. Have been for the past 4 weeks. I have 2 final assignments (both essays) ocerdue: one was due 10 days ago and another 4 days ago. I emailed both my profs about my struggles. They advised I go to the Health Centre. I went for counselling and got a note that I emailed both my profs. They both gave me extensions of one week. Anyways, point is, I get what you're going through. My mom keeps asking me if I finished my essays yet. My parents don't care about my mental health and they don't see how yelling at me is just making it worse.

All I can say to you is, definitely seek counselling at your school if you can. It made a huge difference for me. I'm in the process of getting accommodations now, one of which can be flexible due dates for assignments. Counselling helped with me being able to relieve my stress, work towards healthy ways of coping, and improving my lifestyle. Even getting the chance to vent my frustrations with my parents. I know it seems like your parents don't care, but they most likely do care. I know my parents care but they have the worst way of showing it. Try your best to work on improving yourself and get the help you need. In the end, all you can do is take care of yourself and be the best you can be. Even with or without your parents help or validation. Just try to get out of that environment when whatever they say might make you feel worse. Feel free to message me if you ever want to talk about things. Best of luck!
