Parents convinced me at 17 that skateboarding (my only hobby) was "childish" and a "waste of time" so they made me write this to facebook. 7 years on it hurts to look back on this...

By appearances, I am probably the epitome of Conservative soccer mom. I toe the line so my kids don't have to. I hope that makes sense. I started out with them in early school me trying to find my niche. Those parents who I had a better fit with. There's a wide mixture in our friend group, but the most important value we have in common is decency. When my kids branched out from my example I made sure they were comfortable in their skin and able to accept the consequences because some people don't like you if you're different. I made sure to tell them that was the other's issue. I have to admit, I did cry when I woke up to find my daughter had shaved her gorgeous auburn locks into a now neon pink mohawk complete with liberty spikes. My daughter is 6'1". She wore heels to school. You can picture it. Evvvvvvvvwryone saw her. Sorry for babbling on. Thank you for responding as in know that can be a touchy issue on Reddit. Have a good week!
