Instead of using your parents' tax return on your FAFSA, you'd use your own. So that part of the process is the same. I think sometimes they'll make you fill out a verification form if things change, but that's not always the case, and it was all info from the tax return when I did mine.

Your EFC may change since you're going off a different income, and having a different EFC may shift what sort of grants and loans you're eligible for. I know I get more Pell Grant, for example, being on my own. Those numbers you won't know for sure until your FAFSA is filed and processed.
