Why do parents name their children super common names?

My parents gave me a name they made up. It's long and has unusual letters. I guess to some people it sounds a tiny bit Japanese but it's not Japanese (nor am I Japanese).

Growing up in a place where most girls names are Maria, Sophia, Anna, Lisa etc. my unusual name caused me to feel separated from others. It created a distance (and still does) from other kids.

If I have a kid I'm giving them a common name that isn't too long or difficult to spell. It can't rhyme with bad or funny words and it has to somewhat work internationally.

It's idiotic to go creative when it comes to naming your child. They will carry that name throughout their entire childhood and adolescence (and possibly for the rest of their life).
