I'm not a parent, but my "best" friend and I have known each other and have been friends for about nine years. I typically spend around $50 on each friend, and have done so for the last two or three years. Yesterday we exchange gifts, she opened all the stuff I got her which included a $25 candle, lotions, body sprays and a couple of other little items that I knew she'd like. I opened mine and she got me three pairs of socks from Old Navy that cost $2 each...

Of course it's the thought that counts but she knows that I average about $50 per person EVERY year, and I feel like she could have put a little more effort into me considering we've been best friends since 4th grade.

I regret the purchases I made.
