Parents of Reddit, what's the most expensive thing you've ever had to purchase because of the standard "you break it, you buy it" rule?

If only more Americans felt that way... sigh. I feel that way. I'm happy to pay high taxes if it means everyone is taken care of and no one is suffering because they have to pick between buying important medicine or buying food. I hate how so many Americans have the "Fuck you, I've got mine" mentality. It's actually kind of scary in an almost sociopathic way.

So, okay, I live in Washington, not too far south of Seattle. I am also a pretty big stoner (you can't really tell because I'm disguised as a normal mom) and it's legal to buy weed here. You just roll up to the marijuana store, walk in, and purchase your legal marijuana. For a stoner, this is pretty much the greatest thing ever.

But! People complain about how heavily taxed it is. Seriously, people? Legal. Weed. Nobody is losing their kids or spending decades in jail for personal amounts of mj. Instead of making a dozen phone calls, waiting for people to call you back, finally getting ahold of someone and having them tell you they will be there in 20 minutes and then they show up 3 hours later, pissy at you because you texted them twice asking if they were still on their way, you go to the mj store and buy the mj. That alone, that right there, makes it worth paying high tax on it. I don't care if it's taxed to shit, it's fucking legal!

My whole point is that I, like a lot of other people, even Americans, don't mind paying higher taxes if we actually benefit from it. Taxed to shit weed? Cool, my life isn't going to be ruined when caught with it. Worth it. 50% tax rate, with basic human needs covered and not having my life ruined by a catastrophic accident or illness? Worth it.
