It's not for safety. The politicians and their owners all have armed security guards and have walls around their property. They know that guns are needed for self defense. They want different rules for the common folk. They see regular people as subhuman slaves, livestock to be exploited. A crop to harvest. An unruly mass that must be tamed.

Rules of the masses do not apply to politicians and their owners, because they are the law. They make the law. We follow it, or else we go to jail. They can't go to jail.

The Republican's agenda: "we need more freedom to increase quality of life, so lower taxes!" (what really happens is that they lower the taxes for the politicians and their owners)
