Partner and I are thinking of getting marriages within the next month due to SCOTUS threats. Are we being too reactionary?

Obergefell specifically addressed this issue. Obergefell married his husband in Maryland, moved to Ohio (which bans gay marriage in its constitution), and then the state of Ohio refused to recognize Obergefell as legal spouse on said husband's death certificate (for inheritance purposes). The Ohio Registrar actually agreed with Obergefell, but was overruled by the Governor's office. Multiple circuit courts offered different rulings, so it went to the Supreme Court.

With a narrow vote, the Supreme Court ruled that the 14th Amendment requires all states to recognize gay marriage licenses from states where it is legal (one state cannot refuse to recognize another state's license), and vis-a-vis, all states must issue marriage licenses regardless of the genders involved.

If Obergefell gets nuked, your marriage license from New Jersey is meaningless in Ohio.
