Pasta with sugar, have you ever eaten it?

When I was a kid in Poland during Communist days my mother used to serve me this. I still do it sometimes - when I boil up some pasta, before adding whatever (savoury) sauce, I'll steal a couple of bits of pasta from the main pot and dip them in the sugar pot - love it! When we moved to the UK I tried to describe to a waitress that I wanted pasta with milk or sourcream and a bit of sugar - they brought me out macaroni cheese, which was disappointing.

I remember mum also used to serve crusty bread in a soup bowl, covered with milk and sprinkled with sugar ("milk soup" she used to call it) - again, I used to like it. At the end of the day I don't see it as very different from serving a pancake (crepe) dusted in sugar - it's just carby goodness with added sweetness. Yum!
