Pauline Kael's infamous review of 2001: A Space Odyssey

5) Wrong that I am in any way associated with the right.

Well you certainly share a lot of positions and tactics with the right, have you looked into it? Here’s a few that stood out to me: • Hatred of colleges: right wingers hate these institutions because they teach critical thinking, and people who learn critical thinking tend to not become right wingers • Sexism is not real • Literally every institution favors women • Use of the term “SJW” – only bigots use this as a pejorative • Hiding behind “free speech” to justify cruelty • Using the broken windows argument to undermine the legitimate grievances of protesters • Dismissing the perpetrators of hate crimes as lone wolfs • Claiming the existence of affirmative action disproves the white male patriarchy – as if affirmative action invalidates mass incarceration, racialized police tactics and brutality, voter suppression, the assault on reproductive rights, the wage gap, or the disproportionate representation of white men in most of our institutions • Women don’t have a right to control over their own bodies • Consistent use of hyperbole and denial of reality • You consistently defend the odious people like Milo, Spencer, Trump and the KKK while attacking their opponents

Right or wrong, you are consistently aligned with the right for an alleged “lifelong Democrat.”

6) Wrong that politically correct censorship is not an issue.

Forgive me if I can’t muster any outrage over comedians who are afraid to tell bad jokes and racists who get booted from social media. Nobody is entitled to a platform from private enterprises or laughs from comedy club audiences.

Explain to me why American society is demonstrably, institutionally sexist.

If you were serious about the argument that “literally every institution favors women,” then you would have focused on actual power structures like the three branches of government, the military, the clergy, industry, arts and entertainment, science and academia, the media, industry, healthcare, and education. We could have had actual conversations about any and all of those areas of culture, because I’ll admit some of them favor women and other I’m not even sure about. But instead you focused on divorce court, prison sentencing, affirmative action, and grant money. Those are pretty boilerplate, milquetoast MRA talking points and they are such small potatoes it’s not even worth arguing about. I mean, those organizations might seem like they dominate our culture if you’re a divorced convict, but I don’t that term applies to either of us and the fact that you ignored every other area of society makes me think you are aware that acknowledging them would not do your position any favors. So I don’t really feel obligated to discuss something you are arguing about in bad faith.

You don't need to make a long post

¯_(ツ)_/¯
