Payment form kept saying "error" but ultimately charged my card? What to do?

I know. Users never think to record the actual errors they get.

While we are down on the comment stream, I will explain how forms work.

A webpage contains a form and when it is submitted, it sends the information in the form (using two different possible methods) to the server location specified in the form itself. That processes the forms location and (in one way or another) sends another page back (usually). The page it sends back has nothing to do with the form submission itself. That is processed by something you generally never see directly.

It is like you sending a paper form in the mail with a cheque, and the person opening it processes the cheque and sends you something something in reply. Just because they accidentally sent you a letter saying the payment failed, that doesn't mean that it did.
