Pearl clutching in /r/actualpublicfreakouts over whether the BLM movement cares about black-on-black crime

“Furthermore, it purely up to opinion of who is “worthy” of more outrage. And who’s to say people didn’t care. A building needs to burn every time someone dies to prove you “care”?“

I suppose it is subjective to say that the killing of an 8 year old who was minding her own business is more outrageous than a drunk guy who passed out behind the wheel and fought police and stole their weapon and tried to use it on them. But the amount of media coverage and public protests from the two events is not. It’s not subjective to say his death was more cared about than hers, it’s objectively and measurably true.

It’s the role of law enforcement to arrest murders to prevent them from killing more people. I’ll also add that drunk drivers kill a lot of people too so it’s the role of police to apprehend someone who gets drunk and passes out behind the wheel, and their ability to do that prevents fatalities.

Gaining social status is a highly sought after benefit among individuals and companies. Do you think companies like Google promote BLM because of the altruistic nature of these huge corporations? Same is true for individuals, by posting about “systemic racism” they send social signals that are meant to benefit themselves. Posting about the girl getting killed doesn’t help the poster in the same way. But this is my favorite quote of yours:

“This is an ignorant argument that chooses to ignore that the BLM was first and foremost meant to hold the state accountable for their killings”

You really nailed it here. For every case like the Wendy’s guy who got shot, there so many more cases like the girl who got shot. Those bodies pile up much higher, and as you yourself have admitted, they are not within the scope of the BLM movement. I “understand what the issues are”. It’s as if there are two diseases, and the one that is 100x deadlier gets none of the focus compared to the one that kills a handful of people. In fact that was the whole point of the argument which you are choosing not to entertain. If the slogan is to be believed, “black lives matter”, then the greatest threat to those lives should be more of a priority.
