Has Peckham always been like this?

I have lived in Peckham for 5 years and north east London for 5 years prior and couldn’t disagree more with what you’re saying.

The sense of community and enjoyment I’ve found in the area has given me great joy these last years and something I hadn’t experienced in London before moving there. When rye lane was pedestrianised for those wonderful 18 months everyday was a holiday. The shop fronts may not have new signage or look like a soulless, sanitised planet organic you may find in other areas of London, but it has people you can build relationships with. Places where they remember you and actually care about your return business.

It has beautiful parks and views of all of London if you walk to nunhead or Dawson hill. It has pubs charging £3.20 for a pint and food stalls selling brilliant food for good prices.

London can be dangerous in any area you live, we all learn to take caution, to walk people home, to remain aware.

Peckham has a lot to offer and I really believe it should be given a chance.
