Pelosi defends cannabis in coronavirus response: 'This is a therapy'

To be clear, the OP link is about the emergency stimulus bill they’re proposing; it isn’t about legalizing recreational cannabis. It’s about allowing dispensaries — they’ve been deemed “essential” during the pandemic — to use banks for their transactions so they can protect workers (who handle cash all day) during the pandemic.

I’m a 40-year-old medical cannabis user and fuck yes I think dispensaries and their employees deserve to be included in the stimulus bill.

It’s a good thing.

And Pelosi’s saying cannabis is a valid treatment for millions of Americans for various reasons, so dispensaries and their employees shouldn’t be excluded from the stimulus package.

From the OP link:

The provision would have allowed legal marijuana businesses to work with banking services, USA Today reported.

Cannabis businesses have been deemed “essential” during the pandemic but aren’t eligible for Small Business Administration loans, according to the National Cannabis Industry Association in a statement.

“Our industry employs hundreds of thousands of Americans and has been deemed ‘essential’ in most states. It’s critically important that essential cannabis workers are not exposed to unnecessary health risks due to outdated federal banking regulations,” executive director Aaron Smith said.

Because, ya know, lots of Democratic candidates have also worked hard to decriminalize medical marijuana in their own states.

It’s really weird to “blame” the DNC for supporting the businesses that help treat valid medical conditions, imo. Especially when Republicans want them excluded from the stimulus package and PPP programs.

This needs to be done and I’m glad they’re pushing for it.
