Pema Chödrön apologizes for dismissing allegation of sexual assault from young woman

If a teacher or organization harms others or allows harm to happen under their watch - we should not follow them. Why? Because if a lay follower has mental qualities that are higher than the teacher, there's probably not much gain for them. Reading Dharma books to people is not the same as wearing robes. Buddhism is a study of the mind and perfecting it. Pema honestly should be held at a higher standard and she should of had mindfully understood that those actions she heard about were wrong. To blame the 90's culture or whatever else she points to is a cop out. If someone gets raped, you shouldn't have to explain that this is sexual misconduct. To defend her just creates more suffering in the long run and in my opinion it goes against the goals of Buddhism. It also degrades Buddhism itself.
