As a former Elder (now POMO) that also dealt with Appeal committees I saw this many years ago and recommended to fellow Elders to get Liability Insurance (in the USA) by listing your Non-profit service in the JW congregation “Board” of Elders for Directors & Officers (D&O Non-Profit Liability) as part of you Home Owners insurance, but moreover in a much needed Umbrella Excess Liability insurance policy… Specially if you have some material means; the plaintiff will follow the money and will go after those Elders with most money / better income… Also use your common sense and abide by the law… WT will not defend you when following what they say. Their Service Desk for Elders are all anonymous and will not even give their name when asked… You are on your own legally and liability wise… Best if you need to stay PIMO is to not be an Elder, even if you don’t serve in Judicial Committees when a problem happens, they will sue the whole Body of Elders and you will be a sitting duck with legal liability with no WT defense… Be smart, get out.
