People always say to save money. But what is that saved money for?

I'm not much of a saver and I regret it. There are so many times when I wish I saved money.

People want to do stuff I don't have money for it, if I had just a few hundred dollars in saving it'd be no problem if a buddy messages me on a whim to go out for the night and I had money saved, even then that's not the right answer.

My girlfriend is great at saving. We've known each other after we graduated highschool. We started dating and she always told me she's broke so I'd pay for dinners and outings cause with worked full time and she was only part time while in college.

She had to go to the bank one day and I kinda peeked over her shoulder to see she has 12k sitting in a savings account. I said "dude you're always saying you're broke and can't afford to go out but you're sitting on this cash and making me pay for shit" she said to me "I am broke. This isn't money to spend this is money to save for the future.

Well the future is now, I still don't have a penny to my name and we had a kid together. I was using my mom's car to get around when needed for shopping and groceries. After we had our kid she asked me to borrow my mom's car and take her out. She asked me to take her to a dealership and we'd just look at prices and stuff, nothing too special. We went to a few and everything was pretty expensive then we went to a Nissan dealer and saw this cute little car we could get for 16k.

The dude tried to rip us off (first time buyers) and after taxes and additional shit he charged us for they wanted close to 20k. She noped out cause it wasn't in her price range and went to another Nissan with the quote. The other dealer told her that he could do it for 18k if we're financing. Then she told him she can pay for it in cash. He went right down to 16.5k and we had the car the following week.

It's things like these and because she has been saving since her first job at 15 she can drop 16k on a car and not worry about it cause she still has a bunch in the bank. It sucks spending big money on something but she also got a deal because of cash. Money talks, bullshit walks.

It's stuff like this that helps a lot when you save it's not saving so you can go on vacation it's saving so one day when you really need something you can buy it and not have to sign your life away. Now she owns a brand new car with the extended warranties and stuff so everything is guaranteed for 5 years. Instead of buying a used car she's going to have to drop $1000 a year in repairs on

She was saving to put a decent down payment on a house but at this point in time a car was more important so she just got one.
