Why do people in America care if you're parked badly?

Certainly, not all parking lots in the US are like this. Some cities have even gone as far as to institute maximum parking limits (as exist in Europe). Rather than minimum parking requirements which is the standard in the US. And sure, it is the second year of the pandemic. You can look at similar articles from 2019 as well though.

The last argument just seems a bit ridiculous. Why would you expose yourself to very unnecessary risk? This argument is barely even about parking quality now, and more about 'why would you bother parking away from other cars, just park as close as you can to the entrance'. If that's something that you want to do, sure. But it's not really relevant to the question. I didn't even mention car dents.
