‘People aren’t taking this seriously’: experts say US Covid surge is big risk

In the past 2 weeks, I've worked remotely 3 days because of weather (snow / ice storms). No big deal at my company.

The company I work for wholeheartedly embraced the hybrid workplace.

There are 3 streams: mostly in the office, hybrid, and full remote. Employees can choose any, but they have to commit to it for one year.

We have 'hot desks' and 'hot offices' for anyone to grab. We have 'hotel desks' and 'hotel offices' for anyone to reserve. There are a few desks and offices that are reserved for those that do work in the office daily (like me). Every desk and office one is equipped with a Thunderbolt dock, dual 30+ in. monitors, keyboard and mouse.

The office is usually empty. Crowds of people I've never met appear and disappear for occasional group meetings. People working hybrid tend to come into the office Tue-Thu. Most things happen online.

It has meant we've had to setup 'labs' in people's houses. That isn't cheap with our products being in the 4 to 6 figure territory. Only product verification has fully equipped 'labs' though.

There is a CDN$1500 budget for people to setup home offices, and CDN$750 for those working primarily in the office. I spent mine to upgrade my office monitors to a single 42 in. monitor, as I hate widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio monitors and the larger monitor makes it a non-issue.

The company has grown every year for the past 30 years.

The company grew so much over the pandemic that now it would be impossible for everyone to be in the office at the same time. Also, we now have employees everywhere as commuting isn't necessary.
