What the left doesn't realize is that it's better to let the bigots run their mouths than to let it fester in private

This is bullshit, the right has been openly bigoted since 2015 and hate crimes have increased, people are more divided and stressed than ever and they're rapidly gaining support from stupid people who fall for their hate and propaganda, Germany is an excellent example of how deplatforming worthless bigots and Nazis works and should be done

We had a "hate preacher" on our college campus that ridiculed gays constantly. I want him out there on the corner doing his thing. Why? Because he looks like an IDIOT.

They don't go after the 99.9% of normal people who know they're full of shit, they spread their hate by convincing the 0.1% of confused people that they're right and that's how they ultimately spread their influence to the wider population

The other option would be to ban him and drive his movement underground. I think that is a worse option.

Why not? Driving the movement underground gets it less influence and exposure and eventually it dies out, you cannot just debate fascists, hate preachers, neo Nazis, etc. and expect to just change their opinion

It sucks that there are people in this world who want to drag others down for illegitimate reasons. But ALL we can do is make sure that hatred is left out of our public policy and institutions.

And letting Nazis and Fascists be in the open and reason has resulted in far right parties gaining ground all over the planet and now ideas that 7 years ago even Republicans would have considered neo nazi nonsense are considered moderate Conservative positions like building the wall or the great replacement conspiracy
