People CAD Block

I'm currently working on my M.Arch at a well-known US school, and out of my cohort of 25, only two use CAD as part of their workflow. They both worked for firms that only used CAD before starting their M.Arch, and they both use Rhino for preliminary design work and switch to CAD for final drawings.

Everyone else uses Rhino for drafting and switches to Illustrator for line weights (except for one person who uses Revit sometimes because she hates drawing stairs). There are no limitations on what software we can use in school, but it is expected that we become proficient in Rhino and familiar with grasshopper and the V-Ray plugin for Rhino.

We don't take specific classes on anything, but studio instructors arrange tutorials for techniques and software they think we should know. Occasionally other classes require special software like Therm or Window, but the instructors operate under the assumption that we are all most comfortable in Rhino/Grasshopper. Everything else is picked up on our own or during internships.
